KANE – Doubling up due to a postponement, the Curwensville Area High School softball team gathered two wins on the road at Kane on Monday. Â The Lady Tide blanked the Lady Wolves 10-0 in the first game and followed with an 11-1 win in game two. Â Both games lasted six innings before the mercy rule was put into play.
In game one, Curwensville took advantage of a two-out error in the second inning to get on the scoreboard.  Second baseman Riley Young reached on the error that set the Tide in motion.  Four consecutive singles by Melanie Milliron, Megan McCartney, Hannah Dixon and Abby Dugo plated three runs in the frame to give the visitors the lead for good.
A triple by designated player Kealy Wassil was the big blow in the third inning to help post a 5-0 lead. Â Curwensville ended the game by adding three runs in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth for the 10-0 victory.
“We finally dusted off the bats,” said Curwensville head coach Allen Leigey. Â “We slapped out 15 hits with eight starters contributing at least one hit to the cause. Â That’s what I’ve been looking for all season.”
Seniors Tierra Shope and Melanie Milliron paced the Lady Tide with three hits each with classmate Wassil and Young, a sophomore, and freshman Hannah Dixon adding two hits each.
Junior Alaina Stiles belted out a double in the first game, but was just warming up for the nightcap.
Curwensville took the role as home team in game two and wasted no time getting on the board. Â Stiles was hit by a pitch in the first inning and promptly stole second and third before scoring on a passed ball for a 1-0 start.
Megan McCartney was hit by a pitch with two outs in the second inning that sparked two-runs that would be enough to secure the win. Â Dixon and Dugo singled to follow for one run with a wild pitch adding the second. Â McCartney’s triple in the third high-lighted a four-run frame before Stiles took matters in her own hands.
Shope walked to lead off the fourth and Stiles plated two on a home run to right field for a 9-0 advantage. Â The combination struck again in the fifth as Shope singled in front of a Stiles double.
“Alaina hit the ball well all day,” said Leigey.  “The home run was a bomb that left no doubt when it left her bat.  Everyone hit the ball well tonight.”
Kane’s lone run of the day came in the top of the fifth with a walk, a single and a sacrifice bunt that plated the score.
The mercy rule was called in the sixth as a one out fielder’s choice was thrown to the right-center fence allowing Nikki Harker to score from second.
Shope pitched well in the twin-bill allowing just seven hits on the afternoon with 11 strikeouts and three free passes. Â She also was 4-for-6 at the plate scoring four times.
In all, the Lady Tide belted out 26 hits in the two games with Stiles finishing at 3-for-6 with two doubles and the homer and driving in five runs. Â Milliron and Dixon were also 4-for-6 on the day while Wassil and Young had three hits each. Â Players with two hits included Dugo and McCartney while all nine starters hit safely at least once.
Curwensville will try to keep that hit parade rolling Tuesday on the road in Johnsonburg. Â The Lady Tide defeated the Rammettes at home earlier this season 8-7.
