Shawville Truss Bridge Replacement to Get Under Way

CLEARFIELD – Work to replace the Shawville Truss Bridge on Route 970 will get under way this week. Phase one of the project will feature construction of the new bridge upstream from the existing bridge.

When all work completes next year, area drivers will benefit from smoother, safer travel over a modern structure.

Crews worked last week to place signage for the construction zone. Beginning May 5, construction of the new bridge will begin and periodic, short-term lane closures may be needed.

Motorists should remain alert for flaggers in the roadway. All work will take place during daylight hours, with work hours anticipated Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Fridays 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $5 million project. All work is weather and schedule dependent.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting 511PA, which is free and available 24-hours-a-day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 680 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available by calling 5-1-1, and regional Twitter alerts are available on the 511PA Web site.
