Berea, OH, United States (4E Sports) – The Cleveland Browns have exercised the fifth-year, $5.5 million contract option on defensive lineman Phil Taylor’s rookie contract, general manager Ray Farmer announced Friday.
Taylor is now under contract through the 2015 season.
“I like his ability to rush the passer and be there to clog up the middle at the point of attack when we need him,” said Head Coach Mike Pettine.
Taylor, the 21st overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, has appeared in 39 games with 38 starts. He registered 130 tackles, seven sacks, two passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Last season, Taylor moved inside to the nose position in Cleveland’s 3-4 defense and had 57 tackles and two sacks.
