Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E Sports) – The NBA is investigating an audio recording that allegedly captures Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling making racist statements.
A person identified by TMZ as Sterling can be heard in the recording telling someone, identified as his girlfirend V. Stiviano, that he is bothered about the latter broadcasting her association with black people.
Sterling was said to be reacting on the picture Stiviano had posted on her Instagram account of herself next to Lakers legend Magic Johnson.
“It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people,” Sterling allegedly said. “I’m just saying, in your … Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with, walking with black people.”
The recording also had Sterling warning Stiviano, who is part Black and part Mexican, not to bring Johnson to Clippers games.
NBA spokesman Mike Bass described the remarks as disturbing and offensive.
TMZ did not state in its report how it obtained the recording.
Johnson tweeted that he and his wife would never go to a Clippers game again as long as Sterling owned the team.
