Atlanta, GA, United States (4E Sports) – Ex- running back Herschel Walker says that physically he can still make an NFL comeback at 52.
“I can play in the NFL today,” Walker told USA Today Sports. “I couldn’t take every snap. But running backs nowadays don’t play every down. Now they send in the choir section.”
The college football Hall of Famer and 1982 Heisman Trophy winner, Walker clarified that he’s busy with several business ventures and isn’t thinking of a comeback.
Walker played in the NFL for the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants.
He rushed for 8,225 yards in his career.
He retired from the NFL after the 1997 season and later took up mixed martial arts. He won both his fights at Strikeforce in January 2010 and January 2011.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame website lists Jim Thorpe at 40 as the oldest running back to play in an NFL game.
