Denver, CO, United States (4E Sports) – Colorado Avalanche coach Patrick Roy ruled out center Matt Duchene’s intended comeback in the first-round playoffs series against the Minnesota Wild due to an MCL injury suffered in March.
The team’s original announcement that Duchene would be out roughly four weeks puts him potentially back for Game 5.
But Roy quelled that assessment.
“I don’t think we will see Matt in [this] series,” Roy said. “I’d be very, very surprised. He hasn’t started skating yet.”
The 23-year-old Duchene, who led the team with a career-high 70 points this season, had hoped to be back at some point in the first round of the postseason.
Meanwhile, center John Mitchell who had a concussion remains day to day.
“We’ll see how it goes,” Roy said. “He hasn’t started even to ride the bike. He’s not ready to play.”
