Clearfield Man Killed in Pine Twp. Accident

PINE TOWNSHIP – A 50-year-old Clearfield man, Stephen B. Billotte, was killed in a three-vehicle accident on state Route 153 approximately one-mile north of U.S. Route 322 on Friday in Pine Township, reported the state police at Clearfield.

Billotte was pronounced dead at the scene by Clearfield County Coroner Mike Morris. Brook E. Meyer, 27, of St. Marys, who operated the third vehicle, and his passenger, Christopher M. Meyer, 26, also of St. Marys, were flown to Altoona.

Billotte was traveling north on SR 153; both Richard L. Charles, 55, of Clearfield and Brook Meyer were traveling north. Billotte traveled into the lane of Charles for unknown reasons. Charles attempted to avoid getting struck by the Billotte vehicle. However, Billotte struck the left front side of the Charles vehicle.

After initial impact, the Billotte vehicle spun counterclockwise. At that point, Brook Meyer attempted to avoid impact with the Billotte vehicle. The Billotte and Brook Meyer vehicles still struck head-on, according to the state police.

Billotte and Brook Meyer were wearing their seatbelts; Charles and Christopher Meyer were not wearing their seatbelts. State police were assisted at the scene by the Lawrence Township and Penfield fire departments, Clearfield Emergency Medical Services and PennDOT.
