Tampa Bay, FL, United States (4E Sports) – Rene Bourque had two goals to lead the Montreal Canadiens in beating the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-1 Friday for a 2-0 lead in their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series at Tampa Bay Times Forum.
After a scoreless first period, defensive breakdowns by the Lightning in the second period left their goaltender Anders Lindback in tough situations.
That allowed David Desharnais to score and snap a 0-for-27 drought for the Canadiens power play dating to March 25.
Bourque then split two defenders and was alone when he put a shot past Lindback to make it 2-0 at 10:35 of the second.
Brendan Gallagher padded the lead with an unassisted goal from the right circle at 11:46 of the third against Lindback, who was consequently replaced.
Bourque scored his second goal at 14:29 of the third against Kristers Gudlevskis off an assist by Lars Eller as the Canadiens buried the Lightning, 4-0.
Teddy Purcell finally put the Lightning on the scoreboard with less than two minutes remaining with a wrist shot on a power play.
Defenseman P.K. Subban had two assists while Carey Price stopped 26 shots for the Canadiens.
The Lightning got 20 saves from Lindback and two from Gudlevskis.
