Blue Jays top Indians behind Melky Cabrera’s 4 hits

Cleveland, OH, United States (4E Sports) – Melky Cabrera had four hits and scored the Blue Jays’ go-ahead run in the seventh on Edwin Encarnacion’s single as Toronto edged the Cleveland Indians, 3-2 Friday at Progressive Field.

Brett Lawrie knocked in a run in the fourth to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 start.

Carlos Santana hit a two-run homer off Drew Hutchison in the sixth to give the Indians a 2-1 lead.

Munenori Kawasaki then hit an RBI single off reliever Marc Rzepczynski (0-1) to tie the game at 2-2.

Edwin Encarnacion hammered a single to center that allowed Cabrera to score and put the Blue Jays ahead, 3-2.

Clinging to the one-run lead against the Indians, Santos gave up a leadoff double to Lonnie Chisenhall but struck out Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher.

Santos then walked Jason Kipnis and Carlos Santana to load the bases before retiring Michael Brantley.
