Yan Gomes’ two-run double lifts Indians past Tigers

Detroit, MI, United States (4E Sports) – Yan Gomes hit a two-run double while Zach McAllister struck out four in six innings to lead the Cleveland Indians over the Detroit Tigers, 3-2 Wednesday at Comerica Park.

McAllister (2-0) allowed a run and four hits and walked two.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first before Yan Gomes rapped a two-run double in the second to put the Indians up 3-1.

The Tigers had runners on first and second with one out in the fourth, but McAllister got Nick Castellanos on a flyball and struck out Alex Avila to end the inning.

Miguel Cabrera singled for the Tigers to make it 3-2.

John Axford, who pitched the ninth or the Indians, got out of a jam with a runner on third to seal the win.

He struck out pinch-hitter Don Kelly and got Rajai Davis on a groundout to end the game.

Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez (0-1) gave up three runs — two earned — and two hits in five innings, walking four and striking out eight.
