Chicago, IL, United States (4E Sports) – David Murphy drove in four runs while Ryan Raburn hit a tie-breaking two-run single in the seventh as the Cleveland Indians snapped a three-game losing streak with a 12-6 win over the Chicago White Sox Saturday at U.S. Cellular Field.
Murphy homered and clubbed a bases-clearing triple, Jason Kipnis and Nick Swisher also hit long balls while Michael Brantley had two RBIs as the Indians improved to 6-6.
Justin Masterson had another rocky start, lasting just 4 2/3 innings. He allowed six runs – five earned – on seven hits with five walks and seven strikeouts, raising his ERA to 5.87.
Josh Outman (2-0) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless frames in relief of Masterson to earn the victory for the Indians, who won for the first time in the four-game series.
Adam Eaton homered while Adam Dunn knocked in two runs for the White Sox, who slipped to 6-6.
Starter Felipe Paulino gave up six runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in five innings while reliever Ronald Belisario (1-1) absorbed the loss after giving up a pair of runs.
The Indians raced to a 3-0 lead in the opening frame but the White Sox countered with four runs in the bottom part.
Murphy homered to tie the game but Eaton gave the White Sox the lead back with a long ball in the second.
Long balls by Kipnis and Swisher gave the Indians a 5-4 lead before the White Sox tie the count behind an RBI grounder by Jordan Danks.
In the seventh, Raburn smacked a two-run single to put the Indians ahead while Murphy hit a three-run triple in the ninth. Mike Aviles wrapped up scoring with an RBI single.
The White Sox will send left-hander Jose Quintana (0-1, 2.77 ERA) to the mound in Sunday’s series finale while Cleveland will counter with right-hander Corey Kluber (1-1, 7.71).
