Las Vegas, NV, United States (4E) – Former secretary of State Hillary Clinton dodged a shoe thrown at her by an unidentified woman while she was speaking at a recycling convention in Las Vegas. Clinton was not hurt and security personnel escorted the shoe-thrower out of the convention.
Clinton laughed off the incident and continued speaking before the crowd attending the meeting of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries at Mandalay Bay Casino.
She joked about it by saying, “Good thing she didn’t play softball like I did,” according to Las Vegas Sun.
The shoe-thrower admitted throwing a shoe but did not give her name to reporters.
Clinton, who is considered the Democratic front-runner for the 2016 presidential nomination, has been giving a series of high-paid speeches on her career and family to industry organizations since leaving the Department of State last year. She is also traveling around the country appearing before key Democratic Party constituents.
The shoe-throwing reminds of a similar incident in Iraq in December 2008, when then President George W. Bush dodged shoes thrown at him by an Iraqi journalist while he was speaking in a joint press conference with then Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al Maliki. Bush ducked twice and was not hit by the shoes. The shoe-thrower was arrested later.
