Clearfield Track Teams Split Mountain League Meet

track2

Martinsburg — The Clearfield Area High School boys and girls track teams competed in a Mountain League tri-meet at Central High School on Tuesday, and each split the day at 1-1. Both teams bested the host Dragons, but both were beaten by Central Mountain.

The boys won 78-43 and lost 101-40; while the girls won 118-22 and lost 90-51. Both teams now sit at 3-1 on the season.

Once again Alec Freeman led the boys and Ally Lindstrom led the girls.

Head coach John Jacob had this to say about the boys team, “Alec Freeman was able to come away with two great individual wins. His times may not have improved from the opening-season Invitational but he was able to race and win.  His experience gave him the edge against some very talented runners.  Also of note was freshman Mason Royer and sophomore Corey Shimmel with some nice hurdles, who claimed individual wins in their respective races.

“The best race of the meet was the 4×400 relay team of Royer, Caldwell, Wilsoncroft, and Priester against a very talented Central Mountain team. We raced them to the finish, but fell just short of a win. The race helped us to their best time of the season and will definately help each of them rise to the next level.

“Our throwers, Ryan Lingle in the shot put and Zach Heffernan in the discus, had season-best throws.”

Of the girls team, Jacob added, “Freshman Ally Lindstrom had two nice hurdle races and some consistent jumps.  She showed she is on the verge of breaking through and is able to compete with the upperclassmen.  Jill Heichel had some good races to match her season best time in the 100 meters. She has stepped in to the sprints and is really making a difference.

“Claire Mikesell is racing her way into shape.  After a successful swim season she is starting to battle her way back into track shape and this meet gave her some confidence early in the season.

“The throwing duo of Lash and Patterson were at it again, picking up wins in the javelin and discus.  Both girls are a tough combination to beat in those events.”

Clearfield will host for the first time on the young season on Tyesday April 15 when Bald Eagle Area and Tyrone will travel to the Bison Sports Complex.
