HBO "Game of Thrones" renewed for seasons 5 and 6

Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – After drawing millions in ratings on its fourth season premiere, HBO’s “Game of Thrones” will be back to delight viewers for two more seasons, it was announced Tuesday.

The official Twitter account of the hit fantasy series posted, “Raise a glass of Dornish wine. #GameofThrones is renewed for Seasons 5 & 6. Rally the realm & RT.”

In a press release obtained by Hit Fix, HBO president Michael Lombardo said, “‘Game of Thrones’ is a phenomenon like no other. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.”

“Game of Thrones” is HBO’s most watched show since “The Sopranos” series finale in 2007, with last Sunday’s season premiere garnering around 6.6 million watchers.
