London, United Kingdom (4E) – Tom Ford has tied the knot with his long-time partner Richard Buckley in a private ceremony in the United States, the well-known designer revealed on Monday night.

Speaking with Kinvara Balfour at an event at the Apple Store in Regent Street, Ford related that he had lost “so many friends in college” when he and Buckley decided to make their relationship official.

He added, “I would say more than half of my closest friends. Richard, my partner of 27 years, had also gone through something also quite tough in his life. We are now married, which is nice. I know that was just made legal in the U.K. which is great, we were married in the States.”

Talking to Out magazine in 2011, Ford said about his long-time love, “The first night I ever had drinks with Richard I felt I knew everything about him.” He added, “He seemed so together. He was so handsome, he was so connected, he was so grown-up, so he was very intimidating. And he really chased me — not that he had to chase that hard. It excited me but it also scared me, because I knew he was different and that whatever it was I felt with him was very different from what I’d felt before.”

The 52-year-old designer and Buckley, 66, a writer and journalist, have been together since 1986, and welcomed a son, Alexander John Buckley Ford in September 2012.
