Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – A much anticipated sequel for the 1986 film “The Goonies” may be in the works, director Richard Donner hinted.
In a video posted by TMZ on Sunday, photographers asked Donner if he was going to make another comic book movie, the 83-year-old director replied, “If you call ‘Goonies’ a comic book, we’re doing a sequel.”
As if the news of a sequel is not happy enough, Donner added that he is hopeful to bring the full original cast to work on the new film. The Goonies stars, now 28 years older, include Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Jeff Cohen and Martha Plimpton.
Donner did not say anything more about the new film, though. In 2010, he specifically said that he didn’t think a sequel would be possible, but expressed his idea of a Broadway musical version.
Meanwhile, in a 2011 interview with IGN, ‘Goonies’ star Sean Astin was positive about the remake. He said, “It will happen. I’m 1000 percent certain there will be a sequel. I will bet my children on it.”
