Atlanta, GA, United States (4E Sports) – Mike Scott made 12 of 13 shots in scoring 26 as the Atlanta Hawks gave the Cleveland Cavaliers a costly setback, 117-98 Friday at Philips Arena.
Jeff Teague added 20 points and 12 assists, Paul Millsap had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Lou Williams also scored 16 for the win.
The Hawks had six 3-pointers in taking a 39-23 lead after the first quarter and never trailed.
Scott scored five unaswered points to start the second quarter to give the Hawks a 44-23 lead.
But the Hawks committed nine turnovers in the second quarter, allowing the Cavs to close in at 61-49 by halftime.
The Cavs went scoreless for the first 3:20 and had no field goals up until 7:48 of the third, when Spencer Hawes stopped the drought with a 3-pointer.
Teague layup triggered an 8-0 run by the Hawks to make it 79-61 late in the third.
Up 90-73 at the end of the third, the Hawks started the last quarter with a 5-0 burst to make it a 22-point advantage.
The Cavs never mounted a serious challenge again.
Dion Waiters led the Cavs with 23 points while Spencer Hawes had 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Cavs had won five of six, but lost an opportunity to possibly move within a game of eighth place.
