Thomas A. Golias, 96, formerly of Chesterfield, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
He was born July 6, 1917, a son of the late Wendell and Mary (Poshedley) Golias.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the American Defense Service Medal; the American Theater Service Medal; the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with one Bronze Bar; and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Master’s degree in English and college law.
He’s survived by his brothers, Alfred Golias of Parma, Ohio, Bernard (Phyllis) Golias of Hinckley, Ohio and Wendell Golias of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Mary Rita Diaz of Altoona; a brother-in-law, Herman Kessler of Altoona; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Stephen Golias, Andrew Golias and Msgr. John Golias; four sisters, Sister Mary Rita, CSA, Helen Martous, Anne Barr and Cecilia Kessler.
Friends will be received from 9 a.m. – 1030 a.m. Monday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Ramey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ramey, with Fr. Zab Amar as celebrant. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Osceola Mills Honor Guard.
