Barbara B. Ausel, 84, of Clearfield died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Penn Highlands Clearfield. She was the wife of John P. Ausel of Clearfield for more than 60 years and had been married Oct. 30, 1953 in Rouseville.
Born Aug. 26, 1929 in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe Warren Barnes and Roselia (Aares) McKinley. She was raised by her grandmother, Myra Barnes.
Mrs. Ausel was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church, Clearfield. She was employed by Clearfield Furs, the Holiday Inn Clearfield as a hostess and the Clearfield Hospital as a unit clerk.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Clearfield. She was a 1946 graduate of Oil City High School. She was especially proud of earning her pilot license by soloing in a Piper Cub, with her husband as instructor. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed crocheting and sewing and was very devoted to her family.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter and son, Jill E. Ausel of Pittsburgh and John E. Ausel of Sigel; her granddaughter, Katie A. Penoyer and her husband, Bradley S. of Clearfield; three great-grandchildren, Benjamin Leighow and Addison and Avanelle Penoyer; and a step-sister, Lynda Reimann of Buffalo, NY.
She was preceded in death by her parents and step-brother, Charles Barnes.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Barbara B. Ausel will be at 12 p.m. Monday, at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc., 312 E. Locust St., Clearfield, with Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating.
A time to share memories with the family will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Donahey Hills Cemetery, Millstone Township, Elk County.
