New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) – The NHL suspended Montreal Canadiens defenseman Douglas Murray three games for his illegal head check on Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Mike Kostka.

The incident took place in the third period of Tuesday night’s game that resulted in a concussion for Kostka and a match penalty for Murray.

There was no gray area on the hit, making it easy for the NHL’s Department of Player Safety to make a decision.

The league took into account that Murray has no history of supplemental discipline.

Murray had sent Kostka a text to apologize.

“Classy move,” Kostka said. “I don’t think he had malicious intent, but needless to say it was a bad hit.”
