Ottawa, ON, Canada (4E Sports) – The Ottawa Senators right wing Bobby Ryan will undergo surgery to repair a sports hernia that will cause him to miss the remainder of the season.
According to Senators general manager Bryan Murray, Ryan sustained the injury in November and has been dealing with the discomfort since then.
Murray added that the team was hopeful that they could hold off from having surgery until the completion of the season, but Ryan aggravated the condition last Saturday in Dallas.
“We’re confident that he’ll recover in time to have a full summer of training that will allow him to be back in our lineup and help this team be successful next season,” said Murray
Ryan, 27, has a team-leading 23 goals to go along with 48 points this season.
The Senators currently trail the Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs by eight points in the race for the Eastern Conference’s final two playoff spots.
