Paris, France (4E) – Business confidence among French industry firms remained steady in March, staying steady at the same level as in the last three months, according to a survey by statistics bureau Insee released Tuesday.

The French business confidence index stood at 100, the long-term average for the measure and slightly higher than the estimates of economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal, who had called a reading of 99.

Insee’s monthly survey showed that entrepreneurs’ confidence was lower on recent levels of production this month, but order books slightly increased, with orders both from France and overseas.

The wider gauge of Insee’s business confidence, which includes wholesale, retail, construction and the services sector, climbed to 95 in March from 94 in February.
