Tricia Liston scores 20 as Duke routs Winthrop in NCAA opener

Durham, NC, United States (4E Sports) – Tricia Liston scored 20 as the Duke Blue Devils routed the Winthrop Eagles, 87-45 Saturday at Cameron Indoor Stadium in the first round of the NCAA.

Kendall McCravey-Cooper had 14 points and 10 rebounds while Oderah Chidom added 17 points for Duke, which had a 49-23 rebounding advantage and never trailed.

Liston hit a couple of 3-pointers as the second-seeded Duke (28-6) established a 16-5 lead.

Dequesha McClanahan’s 3-point jumper that allowed the 15th-seeded Winthrop (24-9) to cut the lead to 17-8.

Duke answered with a 6-0 blast that kept their lead to double digits for the rest of the game.

Richa Jackson’s steal and layup with 33 seconds left capped a 12-0 Duke run that gave them a 41-17 halftime lead.

Winthrop reduced their deficit to 60-39 with 10:40 remaining, mainly due to 3-pointers by McClanahan and Samiya Wright.

But a 16-0 Duke run buried Winthrop 76-39.

After back-to-back 3-pointers by Winthrop, Amber Henson answered with a 3-pointer that ignited Duke’s 11-0 blast to end the game.

Wright had 12 points to lead Winthrop.
