New Orleans, LA, United States (4E Sports) – DeMar DeRozan scored 31 to lift the Toronto Raptors over the New Orleans Pelicans, 107-100 Wednesday at Smoothie King Center.
Kyle Lowry scored 23, Amir Johnson added 17 points, Greivis Vasquez finished with 14 points while Tyler Hansbrough grabbed 13 boards for the win.
The Pelicans enjoyed a 31-18 lead late in the first quarter following a layup by Austin Rivers.
The lead reached 14 points several times in the second quarter, the last on Al-Farouq Aminu’s layup that made it 50-36.
But the Raptors outscored the Pelicans 20-7, with DeRozan accounting for nine points, to cut their deficit to 57-56 at the half.
A jumper by Lowry gave the Raptors a 58-57 lead early in the third.
The Pelicans countered with Brian Roberts providing all their points in a 9-3 run for a 67-61 lead.
The Raptors were able to tie it at 70 midway in the third, but the Pelicans stayed in front for the rest of the quarter up until 4:26 of the fourth at 94-90.
But the Raptors outscored them 12-1 for the next 3:41 to grab the lead at 102-95 with just 45 seconds left.
Free throws by DeRozan and Lowry finished off the Pelicans.
Al-Farouq Aminu had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the losing effort.
