Bufallo, NY, United States (4E Sports) – C.J. Fair had 14 points and 11 rebounds as Syracuse Orange blasted the Western Michigan Broncos, 77-53 Thursday at First Niagara Center.
Trevor Cooney top scored with 18 and had two steals, Tyler Ennis had 16 points and six assists while Jerami Grant added 16 points and five boards for the second round NCAA win.
Syracuse (28-5) forced 11 turnovers in the opening half as they raced to a 33-13 lead with 4:12 left in the first half.
They led by 40-21 at halftime.
Tucker Haymond scored seven straight for Western Michigan (23-10) early in the second half, but Syracuse answered with nine as Trevor Cooney hit two 3-pointers for a 50-28 lead.
Syracuse outrebounded Western Michigan 18-6 over a ten minute stretch as they took a 71-43 lead with 3:54 remaining.
Western Michigan gave a token resistance with a 9-0 run before Ron Patterson buried them with two 3-pointers to end the game.
Shayne Whittington and Haymond had 11 points apiece in their losing effort.
Syracuse advances against Dayton (24-10) on Saturday.
