Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Kate Winslet has welcomed her third child last December 13, but it was only recently that the actress offered an explanation why she chose to name him Bear Blaze.
In appearance on the Ellen Show, which airs Tuesday, the “Divergent” star expressed that she has chosen Bear Blaze not just by herself but with her family as well.
Regarding the baby’s first name, the 38-year-old actress said, “A friend of mine when I was younger was nicknamed Bear and I just had always really loved him. And he was very much a bear. He was everyone’s shoulder to cry on, he was a big bear hug, he was a great figure in my life and I just had always remembered him and so that’s where it came from.”
Then, she and husband Ned Rocknroll chose the second name Blaze as a reference to how they first met. “My husband and I met in a house fire, basically,” referring to the August 2011 fire that ate up part of her husband’s uncle Richard Branson’s estate in the British Virgin Islands. “The house burned down and we survived. But we wanted something of the fire and so Blaze was the name that we came up with.”
“We were thinking about names during the pregnancy,” she also told DeGeneres, relaying that this was the first time she planned on a baby’s name before it was born. Referring to her older children Mia, 13, and Joe, 10, she said, “I didn’t name them before they came out because I always felt like I just have to see them and see who they’re going to be.”
“But of course, this time around there’s Mia and Joe and the whole pregnancy is about what are we going to call the baby,” she continued. “So it was really lovely, actually, they were very much included and we settled on Bear quite early on.”
Meanwhile, the actress has admitted and confirmed that for obvious reasons, she has chosen to keep the baby’s last name as Winslet instead of her husband’s Rocknroll. She and Rocknroll, whose name used to be Ned Abel Smith, tied the knot in December 2012.
