Duke’s Jabari Parker picked as Freshman of the Year

Durham, NC, United States (4E Sports) – After leading Duke to a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, forward Jabari Parker has been selected as the Wayman Tisdale Freshman of the Year.

The 6-8 Parker, who will receive the award on April 14 in Oklahoma City, edged Kansas’ Joel Embiid, Syracuse’s Tyler Ennis, Kentucky’s Julius Randle and Kansas’ Andrew Wiggins for the honor.

The five players round out the Freshman All-America team.

Known as a scorer, Parker hit the 20-point plateau on 20 separate occasions, also hitting double-figures in all but two of his 34 games this season.

He finished the regular season with six straight double-doubles, including a 30-point, 11-rebound performance against North Carolina in the regular season finale. Parker then proceeded to average 20.3 points in three ACC tournament games.

On the season, Parker averaged 19.3 points and 8.8 rebounds, while shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 36.9 percent from 3-point range.

Duke will face Mercer in the Round of 64.
