CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Revitalization Corp. (CRC) will continue the Facade Improvement Grant Program in 2014 after receiving an additional $30,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).

The Facade Improvement Grant Program, initiated in 2010, has been responsible for more than $373,274 worth of investment by building owners to facade improvements within the downtown Clearfield Main Street district. Of those funds, $226,137 has been private investment and the other $147,137 was invested by the CRC through the DCED Main Street Program.  The money has directly impacted more than 37 properties and has helped contribute to the downtown area as a whole.

Most recently, the CRC has awarded six more facade improvement grants to downtown property owners. The recipients are: Bob’s Army & Navy Store, Cardiac Diagnostics, Chamber of Commerce of Clearfield, Clearfield Historical Society, Ethan’s Cafe and Dr. Gary Casteel.  Almost all of these projects have been completed.

Main Street Manager Heather Bozovich states, “The success of the CRC Facade Improvement Grant Program over the years is truly impressive. It shows the dedication downtown property owners have towards rehabilitating our downtown and making it viable and attractive to existing and new businesses, residents, and visitors.

“This program is one of the numerous tools that the Clearfield Revitalization Corp. Main Street partnership provides to downtown Clearfield.”

In order to be eligible for a façade grant, the property must be located within the downtown Clearfield Main Street district.  Also, in order to be eligible, each building owner must be able to match at least 50 percent of the rehabilitation cost of the façade.

The maximum grant award is $5,000 per project. The CRC Design Committee is seeking projects that will offer significant contributions to the visual appeal of the downtown.
