Washington, DC, United States (4E Sports) – The Washington Capitals have signed defenseman Dmitry Orlov to a two-year contract extension worth $4 million, with a salary cap hit of $2 million.
According to Capitals vice president and general manager George McPhee, Orlov will earn $1.75 million during the 2014-15 season and $2.25 million in 2015-16.
This season, the 22-year-old Orlov has registered nine points (three goals, six assists) and 19 penalty minutes in 38 games with Washington this season.
The 5-11, 211-pound defenseman scored two goals against Philadelphia on March 2 and ranks sixth among Capitals skaters in ice time per game (19:31).
In 103 career NHL games with Washington, Orlov has earned 29 points (six goals, 23 assists) and 37 penalty minutes.
With Orlov’s signing, the Capitals have three defensemen signed for at least the next two seasons, including John Carlson ($3.96 million) and Karl Alzner ($2.8 million).
