Green Bay, WI, United States (4E Sports) – Cornerback Sam Shields re-signed with the Green Bay Packers for a four-year deal worth $39 million plus a signing bonus of $12.5 million.
He will earn $15 million in the first year, $6 million in the second year and $9 million in the third year.
Shields, 26, was expected to test his value in free agency after the Packers declined to use the franchise tag.
But the deal was announced roughly seven hours after after NFL’s open negotiation window began at noon Saturday.
Shields emerged as the Packers’ top cover cornerback last season while playing for the restricted free-agent tender of $2.023 million.
The former undrafted free agent tied his career high with four interceptions in 14 games, including a game-changing pick in the Week 15 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
