Calgary, AB, Canada (4E Sports) – Joe Colborne scored twice to lead the Calgary Flames past the New York Islanders, 4-3 Friday at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Both of Colbornes’s goals plus one by Sean Monahan came in a third-period rally as Calgary overcame a 3-1 deficit with less than nine minutes to go.
Markus Granlund opened the scoring for the Flames after a pass from Paul Byron.
Colin McDonald tied it for the Islanders with a sharp angle over Flames goaltender Joni Ortio’s shoulder at 15:26 of the first.
The Islanders went ahead early second period with Kyle Okposo’s goal.
Brock Nelson took a feed from Josh Bailey and ripped a wrist shot to give the Islanders a 3-1 advantage before the third.
Colborne started the rally at 11:29 when he knocked in a rebound off the end boards to make it 3-2.
Monahan backhanded to tie it at 14:22, before Colborne scored with a tip-in from eight feet for the win at 15:41 after deflecting Giordano’s slap shot.
