Dunedin, FL, United States (4E Sports) – Ervin Santana has agreed to a one-year, $14 million deal with the Toronto Blue Jays but is still awaiting a better offer from the Baltimore Orioles.
According to The Baltimore Sun, the free agent 31-year-old right-hander received similar offers from the Blue Jays and Orioles, with the Blue Jays proposal considered more attractive.
FOX Sports reported on Friday night that Santana was hoping to sign a one-year deal with a strong offensive team as soon as possible.
The Blue Jays, Orioles, Rangers, Mariners and Royals had all been mentioned as potential destinations.
Santana turned down the Royals’ one-year, $14.1 million qualifying offer from his latest team, the Kansas City Royals, where he went 9-10 with a 3.24 ERA in 211 innings last season.
If he signs with another club, that team will forfeit a draft pick to the Royals.
