Columbia, SC, United States (4E Sports) – The University of South Carolina has suspended men’s basketball head coach Frank Martin for his inappropriate verbal communication with his players, according to athletics director Ray Tanner.

“The one-game suspension is a result of inappropriate verbal communication as it relates to the well-being of our student-athletes,” said Tanner on the team’s official website.

Martin will serve the suspension in the Gamecocks’ showdown against Mississippi State Saturday.

Associate head coach Matt Figger will serve as acting head coach when the Gamecocks (11-19, 4-13 SEC) take on the Bulldogs (13-17, 3-14 SEC) in the final regular season game of the year.

Martin committed the verbal abuse during the Gamecocks’ game against top-ranked Florida. They later lost to the Gators, 72-46.

Martin was caught on camera shouting and cursing at freshman point guard Duane Notice. Earlier in the second half, Martin was seen cursing at forward Michael Carrera.
