Eleanor J. Kester, 93, of Clearfield died Monday, March 3, 2014 at DuBois Regional Medical Center, West.

She was born June 17, 1920, the daughter of Dorse A. and Florence May (Ogden) Lytle. On May 3, 1947, she married Charles “Emory” Kester at the West Side United Methodist Church by the Rev. Gordon Williams.

Mrs. Kester, along with her husband, owned the former Kester TV and Radio. It was located on Nichols Street in Clearfield Borough from 1947 to 1993 when they retired.

She was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church of Clearfield, where she taught Sunday school from 1946 until 1975. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and Circle Sarah.

Mrs. Kester was very active in the Clearfield County Republican Party, serving as Precinct Chairlady of the Third Ward from 1962 until 1984. She also served two terms on the Clearfield Borough Council from 1974-1982.

She is survived by a sister, Ethel Rosalee Mayhew of Clearfield and a brother, Keith Andrew Lytle of Nordheim, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews throughout the United States, including Nicholas Mayhew, Terry L. Collins and her husband, Terry M., all of Clearfield; John Mayhew of Zenia, Ohio; Kristina Murray and her husband, Greg of Tyrone; Ted L. Werdal and his wife, Mary of State College.

Mrs. Kester was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles “Emory” Kester, whom died Feb. 10, 2004; a sister, Helen L. Werdal and a nephew, Kelly Brian Mayhew.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield, with the Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating. Burial will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the hour of the services at the funeral home.
