Baltimore, MD, United States (4E Sports) – The Baltimore Orioles signed free-agent pitcher Johan Santana to a Minor League deal Tuesday.
Before signing with Baltimore, Santana threw for numerous clubs last week, including the Orioles. He was spotted at the team’s Spring Training complex Monday.
Santana, still rehabbing from his second left shoulder surgery, would be an interesting addition for the Orioles, who have a lot of starting pitchers but lack lefties in the bullpen.
Santana pitched for the Minnesota Twins from 2000 to 2007 and for the New York Mets from 2008 to 2012. In 360 career games, he is 139-78 in 284 starts and is 4-2 with a 3.96 ERA in 76 relief appearances.
The hard-throwing Santana holds holding right-handed hitters to a .225/.281/.364 career line and lefties to .240/.293/.394.
