Cline and Verchick find out First-round Opponents for PIAA Wrestling Championships

HERSHEY – The brackets for the PIAA State Wrestling Championships were released Sunday afternoon. As a results the first-round opponents for Clearfield’s entrants have been determined.

Junior Noah Cline (28-9), a Northwest region third-place finisher, will face senior Rodney Sunday (32-3), the South Central region champion, from Dallastown. While Cline is making his first trip to the state tourney, Sunday is a returning placewinner.

After being defeated in the first-round by eventual state champion Connor Schram, Sunday wrestled back to a fifth-place medal last year. He finished his junior campaign at 37-9.

Senior Jake Verchick (28-8), also a Northwest Region third-place finisher, will meet up with another first-time state qualifier in Mount Lebanon junior Zeynul Zaynullayev (33-4), the Southwest region runner-up.
