Louisville, KY, United States (4E Sports) – Russ Smith scored 24 as No. 7 Louisville routed Temple, 88-66 Thursday at KFC Yum! Center.
Montrezl Harrell added 21 and freshman Terry Rozier scored a career-high 19 for its seventh straight victory.
Louisville’s fast-paced attack usually starts with Smith and often finishes with a dunk from Harrell. Smith was 8 of 12 from the field and 7 for 8 from the free throw line. Harrell shot 9 of 12 and had four dunks to extend his school record of 69 slams on the season.
Smith erupted with nine points to ignite a 13-0 Louisville run for a 13-2 lead.
Moments later, Louiseville buried Temple, 24-6, just more than seven minutes into the game.
Quenton DeCosey made jumper followed by a layup and a 3-pointer by Will Cummings as Temple cut the lead to 24-13.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Rozier doused Temple’s rally as Louisville upped its advantage to 38-21.
Louisville’s lead was brought down to 42-29 at halftime, but they overpowered Temple in the second half, taking a 73-47 lead with 8:35 left.
The lead swelled to 88-59 with 1:15 remaining before Temple scored the final seven points.
