Goodyear, AZ, United States (4E Sports) – Joey Votto and Ryan Ludwick singled home runs as the Cincinnati Reds drubbed the Cleveland Indians, 8-3, Wednesday in the Cactus League opener at Goodyear Ballpark.
Votto also ripped an RBI single off lefty reliever T.J House that scored Brayan Pena from second base.
He later crossed the plate on a base hit to left field by Ryan Ludwick to push the Reds to a 2-0 advantage.
The Indians, hitless through the first four innings, started the fifth with Ryan Raburn’s double to left for their first hit of the game. They tied the score with two runs in the fifth courtesy of Tony Wolters’ RBI single and David Adams’ double play with the bases loaded.
Against Indians lefty Colt Hynes in the sixth, Tucker Barnhart drew a bases-loaded walk and Donald Lutz added a run-scoring groundout to give the Reds a 4-2 lead.
Chris Heisey hit a two-run homer off Indians relief prospect C.C. Lee in the seventh as the Reds pushed their lead to 6-3.
The Reds stretched the advantage to 8-3 with two more runs in the eighth on Donald Lutz’s triple and a sacrifice fly by Chris Nelson.
The Reds’ victory also marked Bryan Price’s managerial debut.
