South Bend, IN, United States (4E Sports) – Kayla McBride scored 31 points and Jewell Loyd added 21 to help No. 2 Notre Dame bag the ACC crown with an 81-70 win over No. 7 Duke Sunday at Edmund P. Joyce Center.
McBride made 13 of 25 shots and had seven rebounds, four assists and four steals as the Fighting Irish remained unbeaten with a 27-0 record, 14-0 in the ACC.
Natalie Achonwa added 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Fighting Irish, who won their third regular-season title after winning two in the Big East.
Elizabeth Williams scored 20 points, Alexis Jones added 15 while Richa Jackson had 11 for the Blue Devils (24-4, 11-3 ACC), who failed to win the ACC regular-season title after four straight years of domination.
Tricia Liston scored nine points to become the 20th player in Duke history to notch a 500-point season.
The Blue Devils missed eight of their first nine shots while the Fighting Irish raced to a 20-2 lead midway through the first half.
Michaela Mabrey buried back-to-back triples while McBride added a jumper to give the Fighting Irish a 20-point lead late in the opening half.
However, the Blue Devils scored six straight points to cut the deficit to 14 at the break.
Midway through the second half, back-to-back baskets by Jones trimmed the deficit to 62-55 but the Fighting Irish retaliated with a 12-4 blast to wrap up the victory.
