Ohio State leans on strong second half to rip Minnesota

Columbus, OH, United States (4E Sports) – Sam Thompson scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half to lead the No. 24 Ohio State Buckeyes over the Minnesota Gophers, 64-46, Saturday night at Value City Arena.

Lenzelle Smith Jr. added 13 points and Shannon Scott 10 for Ohio State (22-6, 9-6 Big Ten) which won the board battle, 35-25.

Minnesota led 28-18 at the half as Andre Hollins and Joey King each scored seven points and Deandre Mathieu added six for Minnesota.

But Ohio State took control with a 17-0 run early in the second haalf with LaQuinton Ross pouring in five points and Aaron Craft and Smith each adding four that gave them a 35-30 lead at 13:11 of the second half.

Less than a minute later, Thompson erupted with 10 points as Ohio State buried Minnesota 45-35.

A 7-0 Ohio State run midway through the second half gave the Buckeyes a 52-39 lead with 6:38 left.

Minnesota didn’t threaten again.

Andre Hollins had 13 points and DeAndre Mathieu added 12 to lead Minnesota (17-11, 6-9).
