Chiney Ogwumike powers Stanford’s rally to halt USC

Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Chiney Ogwumike had 27 points and seven rebounds to lead Stanford Cardinal over the University of Southern California Trojans, 64-59, Friday at Galen Center.

Bonnie Samuelson added 14 points for Stanford Cardinal (25-2, 14-1), which clinched at least a share of their 14th straight Pac-12 regular season title and 23rd overall.

They also secured the Pac-12 Tournament’s top seed.

USC had a 32-13 lead in the first half but couldn’t sustain the offensive pace.

Stanford outcored them 17-5 the rest of the half to cut USC’s lead to 37-30.

During Stanford’s run, Ogwumike scored six points and Samuelson added five while USC got all its points from Cassie Harberts.

USC went on to miss 13 of its first 15 shots in the first 13:59 of the second half as Ogwumike scored 16 points in that timeframe, fueling Stanford to a 55-46 lead.

Brianna Barrett hit a jumper while and Ariya Crook had a 3-pointer to pull USC within 55-51 in the final 3:32.

But Stanford scored nine points against Crook’s eight points for USC in the dying minutes to seal the win.

Crook led USC with 24 points and Harberts scored 12 for USC (16-11, 9-6).
