Benjamin Calvin Lloyd, 80, of Philipsburg died on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at Windy Hill Village, in Philipsburg.
He was the son of the late Paulard “Bill” and Elizabeth (Bell) Lloyd, born March 14, 1933 in Philipsburg. He married the former M. Louise Ashcroft on Feb. 14, 1959 in Morrisdale; she survives him at home.
Mr. Lloyd was of the Protestant faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Moshannon Lodge, No. 0391, F&AM in Philipsburg and of the Altoona Consistory, Valley of Altoona and Jaffa Shrine, both of Altoona. He was a member and captain of the former Moshannon Valley Shriners Motorcycle Corps and a member of the VFW No. 3450 in Philipsburg.
He was employed as a heavy equipment operator throughout his working career. He first worked with New Enterprise Stone & Lime Inc. of New Enterprise and then with Al Hamilton Contracting of Woodland.
Mr. Lloyd is survived by a daughter, Karen J. Lloyd-Pillot and her husband, Neil of Thompsontown; a son, Benjamin Calvin Lloyd II and his wife, Tracy of Hopewell, Township, Aliquippa; five grandchildren, Jay, Adam and Nicholas Pillot of Thompsontown and Abigail and Rebecca Lloyd of Hopewell Township, Aliquippa; and a niece and two nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Dr. John A. Godissart, nephew of the deceased, and the Rev. Noel Myers officiating. Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce Street, Philipsburg. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted on at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
