US, Canada to vie for women’s hockey gold

Sochi, Russian Federation (4E Sports) – United States and Canada arranged a showdown for gold in the women’s hockey event of the Sochi Winter Olympics after defeating their semifinal rivals Monday.

Brianna Decker and Megan Bozek tallied a goal and two assists apiece while Jessie Vetter recorded eight saves as the Americans downed Sweden, 6-1.

Kacey Bellamy, Amanda Kessel, Monique Lamoureux and Alex Carpenter also scored for the Americans, who peppered Sweden with 70 shots.

Anna Borgqvist provided the lone goal, Valentina Lizana-Wallner stopped 42 shots while Kim Martin Hasson had 22 saves for Sweden.

Meanwhile, Canada scored three goals in the first period en route to a 3-1 win over Switzerland.

The Americans will battle the Canadians for the gold Thursday. Switzerland and Sweden will play the bronze-medal game on the same day.
