Russia’s Victor An wins short track 1000m gold

Sochi, Russian Federation (4E Sports) – Victor An gave Russia its first-ever short track speed skating gold medal when he dominated the men’s 1000 meter event of the Sochi Winter Games.

An, who won three golds for his native South Korea at the 2006 Turin Olympics before switching nationalities, won in a time of one minute 25.325 seconds.

A South Korean-turned-Russian, An bagged his fourth Winter Olympic gold medal and sixth in total having also won 1500m bronze in Sochi.

The Russians completed a 1-2 finish as Vladimir Grigorev bagged silver while bronze went to Sjinkie Knegt of the Netherlands.

Dajing Wu finished fourth in the final, while Da Woon Sin was penalized.
