Sochi, Russian Federation (NewsBahn) – U.S. corporations may be cutting back on attending the Olympics, according to reports and some sports marketing executives.
Poor accommodations, security challenges and travel costs are among the reasons some cite for the smaller numbers.
“These games, we sent the fewest visitors in more than two decades,” Robert Tuchman, president at sports branding agency Goviva told The New York Post. “We’re usually sending 500 people, this year we’re sending 20.”
Ticket prices for events at the Games have fallen about 25 percent in the past three weeks, Tuchman told the paper.
Despite the myriad of problems, eighty percent of the tickets have been sold according to Russian officials.
