Madison, WI, United States (4E Sports) – Nigel Hayes top scored with 14 while Traevon Jackson hit the game-winning jumper in the closing seconds to lead the Wisconsin Badgers over No. 9 Michigan State Spartans, 60-58, Sunday at Kohl Center.
Josh Gasser and Sam Dekker added 11 points each while Frank Kaminsky contributed 10 points for Wisconsin, which committed 14 turnovers.
Wisconsin led 30-22 after the first half following an 11-0 run.
But Michigan State started the second half with a 9-2 blast, capped by consecutive dunks by Gary Harris, to cut the lead to 32-31.
Field goals by Hayes and Ben Brust and a 3-pointer by Sam Dekker helped Wisconsin (19-5, 6-5 Big Ten) push its lead to 43-33.
Wisconsin kept its lead almost the rest of the game until Michigan State tied it at 58 on a jumper by Harris and a 3-pointer by Adreian Payne.
With nine seconds left, Coach Bo Ryan placed the ball in the hands of Jackson, who has a history of hitting clutch shots.
Jackson didn’t fail him and hit the go-ahead jumper with 2.1 seconds left for the final score.
Payne finished with 24 points to lead Michigan State (20-4, 9-2).
