Guangzhou, China (4E Sports) – Chinese Super League champion Guangzhou Evergrande has boosted its lineup by signing Italy’s national team soccer player Alessandro Diamanti.
The team announced that the 30-year-old former captain of the Serie-A team Bologna signed a three-year contract with a transfer fee of 6.9 million euros ($9.4 million) but did not disclose salary details.
The Chinese team is owned by developer Evergrande Real Estate Group (3333) Ltd.
With the signing, Diamanti is reunited with Italian World Cup-winning team manager Marcello Lippi, who coaches Guangzhou Evergrande.
According to Lippi, Diamanti’s arrival is a “critical piece in the puzzle” for Evergrande to defend the titles of Chinese Super League and AFC Champions League.
Diamanti, who played the Euro Cup and the Confederations Cup for Italy, has represented the nation’s soccer team 17 times.
