Boise, ID, United States (4E Sports) – Xavier Thames scored 23, made a crucial steal, and assisted Dwayne Polee II for a 3-pointer with 4 seconds left to lift the San Diego State Aztecs over the Boise State Broncos 67-65 at Taco Bell Arena.
The win extended their streak to 19 games.
Thames was expected to take the final shot and was very close to doing it but changed his mind at the last second and instead whipped a pass to Polee.
“I had a pretty decent look, but I saw DP out of the corner of my eye,” Thames said.
Boise State was up 57-43 lead with 13:37 to play before San Diego State (20-1, 9-0 Mountain West) ignited a 15-2 run, fueled by 10 points from Thames, to take a 61-59 lead with 4 minutes to play.
Boise State (15-8, 5-5 Mountain West) then had two free throws and a layup from Mikey Thompson and a basket from Derrick Marks to retake the lead at 65-62.
Thames then made the big steal in the final minute, hit two free throws and dished out the dramatic assist for the win.
Thompson had 16 points while Bropleh and Marks each added 15 to lead Boise State.
