Boy drowns in cruise ship pool, another revived

Orlando, FL, United States (4E) – One of two young boys found unconscious in the adult swimming pool of a Norwegian cruise ship died due to drowning and the other was revived by CPR in North Carolina on Monday.

The fatality on board the Florida-bound Norwegian Breakaway was a 4-year-old boy while the other boy, who is 6 years old, was airlifted by Marine Corps helicopter to Cartaret General Hospital in Morehead City for treatment, the cruise ship operator, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), said on its Facebook page. The older boy was accompanied by his grandmother and a ship nurse.

Emergency medical staff immediately performed CPR on the two boys when they were found in the pool about 11:30 a.m. but the younger boy was unresponsive, according to NCL.

The ship was to call at the Brevard County port on Tuesday when the accident happened about 35 miles east of Cape Lookout.

NCL expressed its sympathy to the family of the dead boy.
