Syracuse, NY, United States (NewsBahn) – Trevor Cooney connected on 11 of 15 field goal attempts and finished with 33 points as top-ranked Syracuse held off Notre Dame 61-55 Monday.
The Orange were coming off a thrilling overtime win vs. Duke Saturday that lifted the ‘Cuse to No. 1 in the country.
Syracuse needed Cooney’s heroics as star forward C.J. Fair scored just six points and hit 2 of 13 field goals.
Garrick Sherman led Notre Dame with 16 points and the Irish stuck with the Orange throughout the contest.
Notre Dame outrebounded Syracuse on both ends of the court for a 33-28 advantage but missed 5 of 14 free throws.
Syracuse improved to 22-0 overall, 9-0 in the ACC while Notre Dame fell to 12-11, 3-7.
